Expensive Clothes, Luxury Heart

Do you ever wondering that you are actually expensive. You are wearing good branded clothes that cost a lot of money. Your shirt, pant, shoes and not to mention the accessories like belt, watch, glasses and others. Not all are wearing expensive clothes, but most of us wore nice clothes when we need to go to work and other activities. People will bad mouth us if we go to work with cheap and untidy clothes. That will be unethical to do that.

Let us do some simple calculation. How much your clothes cost?

Expensive cloth is a symbolization for great fortune and possession. We have tendency to wear good expensive clothes when we have the ability doing it. Every month, most of us want to buy new clothes to catch up with the trend. It is shameful to wear the same clothes every day.

Don’t we?

People forget an important thing. They want and buy expensive clothes. But they tend to forget how to behave expensively. Not in a bad way, but in a good way. It is common for us to hear the rich treats the poor badly. They think that they are levels above the poor’s.  Of course, not all rich persons behaving like that. But, the majority of us have the tendency to look down to the poor’s.

We reluctant to help. Instead, we mock them. We think that the poor’s are not at the same level with us. Our clothes made us arrogant.

Is it true?

No matter how much your clothes cost, if you behave wrongly, it will be valueless. The value of yourself is your behavior and attitude. There are many examples that rich person behaved wrongly and got punished. They were immersed with the luxury and forgot the root of life value.

Supposedly, good clothes and money will ease you to help the others. You are in the position that need you to help other needy people. You have the ability to do it. But instead, most of us ignore them once we are out of the misery. That is so wrong.

So, it is wrong to have good expensive clothes? Do we need to find cheap bad clothes?

It is not necessarily for you to wear the cheap and bad clothes. It is not wrong to wear good expensive clothes. But with good expensive clothes, there should be an awareness to help others in need. Or at least, you need to behave nicely.

It is not difficult to behave nicely. It is depending on yourself, you will behave nicely or not.

Do you know the story of Qarun?

Qarun lived at the same time of Prophet Moses A.S. Despite being poor at first, God gave him treasures and owner of great possessions. 

The status and possessions made Qarun arrogant and insolent towards his own people. He refused to accept Moses’ messages and boasted about his greatness. Some of the people become envy of Qarun. Only if God gives them the same fortune like Qarun.

The true believers warned Qarun and his people. All his fortunes are temporary. The real fortune is the hereafter and he should not prefer the temporary pleasures more than the mercy of God.

He believed that his fortunes is coming because of his knowledge. In other words, he had the boastful attitude that he was superior to other people. In the end, his arrogance brought him nothing but harm. He let himself towards destruction by arrogantly believing that all his possessions were own by his own effort. At last, Qarun sank with his boastful possessions forever.

Qarun’s story gave us a warning. The story clearly illustrates that do not boastful and arrogance with your possessions. The possessions should make you being more generous and humble.

We should take lessons.

What we desire so dearly is actually temporary. And ultimately worthless. Do not to be taken by the allure of the temporary pleasures and those who possesses them. Those who boast of their possessions can never attain salvation. Many people of the past were destroyed, although they possessed immeasurable wealth. They thought themselves as the ultimate ruler, but they forgot who the God is. At last, their glorious place reduced to ruin and served as a reminder for us.

Those who appear to lead a luxuriant and prosperous life, actually live in spiritual deprivation.

God gives expensive clothes and possessions to test us. We need to keep in mind that God gives us possessions as a test. These possessions bring enjoyment as long as we use it in a good way. Or we will end up like Qarun, died in misery.

It is not wrong to find wealth. But, do not forget your ultimate goal, the wealth in the hereafter.

God does not look at expensive clothes and possessions. Why does He have to look it? He owns everything. Instead, He looks at our hearts and our deeds. That is why it is so important for us to have an expensive heart. All of us can have a luxury heart. It is not for the rich only, but also for the poor.

If you cannot have the expensive clothes, it is okay. But luxury heart, it is a must.
