Go Away, Depression



Depression is a medical illness that negatively affects how you feel, the way you think and how you act. It is severe condition and need to be treated as an illness. People who are depressed cannot to be told to just fight their depression alone. They need someone who can be their listener and helper.

People with a depressed mood may be notably sad, anxious, or empty. They may also feel hopeless, helpless, dejected, or worthless. Their daily life will be a mess. They lost interest to do something that they always did before. They distance themselves from others and just sat alone waiting for time to pass. They have their own world.

People always mistaken the ways to deal with the depressed person. They thought that depression is not an illness. It is just an emotional scratch, which will disappear after a short time. Thus, they always said to pray and reciting Quran. Later, your depression will be gone. That is not necessarily true. And also is not necessarily false.  True, because it is one of the ways to cure the depression. False, to depend solely on them cannot cure the depression.

Why people depressed?

Before discussing the ways to fight depression, a fundamental question had to be asked. Why did people depressed? There a lot of reasons. Past life events, personality and others. 
The most commonly known triggers for depression are things like trauma, grief, financial troubles, relationship breakup, unemployment, or a big move to another city.
  Then there are poor sibling relationships, dysfunctional families, or a lack of purpose in life.

Listen.

Thus, it is important for us to listen their story first. Do not rush to judge them. They need help, not a judgement. You have to listen, not to argue. Sometimes, they just want someone that can listen to their story well. Let them spill everything inside their heart.

You have to tell them, you will always by their side. Cheer them with love. Even others will bad mouth them, you will still stand beside them. Support them without stop. They do not have to fight the depression alone.

Tell them, “ I love you. Let us fight together!”

And of course, they need to see the doctor. After all, depression is an illness. Tell them, it is not shameful to see the doctor. They need help from the doctor to get the medication.

It is not impossible to beat depression.  The voice of depression that says you can never recover or find relief is a liar. Finding comfort in depression is difficult, but not impossible.


Just beat it.
